In support of The Women's Center, Oak Street Art members set up shop at the Old Feed Store venue in Cobden, Illinois, on Saturday morning, November 3, 2018.
Sue Gindlesparger (metals, jewelry) and Darby Ortolano (ceramics) were on hand for good conversation and to share the work of all seven Oak Street Art members.

We were especially delighted to be invited to participate by Women's Center board member Stephanie Dillard. Stephanie also happens to be a talented stained glass artist featured in the 2018 Oak Street Fine Arts Fair. (UPDATE: Stephanie is now a member of Oak Street Art!)
A portion of all Oak Street Art sales from this "Feed the Need" fundraiser went directly to the Women's Center. In particular, proceeds were earmarked specifically for services to Union County survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

A few weeks before the 2018 Oak Street Fine Arts Fair, we spent a fun morning talking with reporter Chanda Green as Byron Hetzler snapped photos.
We loved the new feature story, Collective Souls: Oak Street Artists Nurture the Connections between Art and Community. Pick up a copy of the (beautiful, full-color, glossy) magazine where The Southern Illinoisan is sold, and see Chanda's story and Byron's photos online at the Life & Style website here.

Oak Street Fine Arts Fair 2017 Featured in Carbondale Times

Thanks to the Carbondale Times for publishing a piece about our recent fine arts fair, held September 23!
Two of the six founding members of the Oak St. Art Group (Rachel Malcolm Ensor and Sue Gindlesparger) were quoted as they spoke about their vision for the fair. Read the full story here: Oak Street Art Fair: Using Art to Revitalize the Community.
For us, one highlight of the article was the final paragraph:
"A goal of the members of the Oak Street Art Group is to revitalize the area by building and supporting a strong artist community. Artists have begun housing their studios in the [historic Logan] neighborhood, which they hope to become an artist community in Murphysboro."

5 Things to Love About the Oak Street Fine Arts Fair (Sat., Sept. 23)

9/19/2017

Members of the Oak St. Art Group are planning the upcoming fine arts fair for Saturday, September 23, from 10am to 5pm, featuring the work of more than 20 local artists. Here are some of the things members are most excited about:
Picture
Photo: WSIL news.
1.  Brick street / historic venue: Both Sue Gindlesparger (metals, jewelry) and  Rachel Malcolm Ensor (painting, mixed media) highlighted the location, along a charming brick street (Oak St.) in the historic arts district of Murphysboro. Come see the artists, musicians, and food vendors on Oak Street (south of Walnut) between 15th and 17th. (SEE MAP HERE.)
2. Art for all: Ceramic artist Darby Ortolano loves giving exposure to both professional artists and artists who don't necessarily make their livelihood from their work. All artwork in the fair must be original, but artists of many stripes are represented this weekend, from college/university art faculty to art students to local people whose art is a labor of love.

3.  Sense of community: In a similar vein,  Ann Fischer (photography) and Rachel are excited about this chance to bring people together. Everyone is welcome! Artists, musicians, food vendors, and community members can meet and enjoy each other's company.
4.  Front-porch live music all day: Sue is especially excited for the full lineup of local music, starting at 10am. Bring lawn chairs so you can sit and enjoy the music, live from the porch of the Jones House in the arts district.
5.  Eats: Come for both breakfast-y and lunch/dinner deliciousness from Muglee's Brew (coffee and pastries) and Pat's BBQ.
P.S. Bring your chairs! We'd love to see people relaxing with coffee and BBQ and taking in the music.

Hope to see you there!
